At the Department of Chemistry (LMU Munich), our research focuses on the design, synthesis, and characterization of advanced energetic materials, including high-performance explosives, propellants, and pyrotechnics. As the only university-based chemistry chair in Germany dedicated to this field, we provide a critical sovereign capability for national and international security. Our work, exemplified by the development of the globally recognized compound TKX-50, bridges the gap between fundamental molecular research and practical defense applications. In an increasingly complex global security environment, we serve as a vital hub for the NATO alliance, collaborating closely with institutions such as the the Bundeswehr but also US Army and US Navy to ensure technological superiority. By training the next generation of highly specialized experts, we fulfill a core responsibility to the safety and defense readiness of Germany and its partners.
